Appointment of Attorney by David Pickens & Hetty Folsom – 25 AUG 1868:
Know all men by these presents, that We David Pickens and Hetty
Folsom, Citizens of the Choctaw Chickasaw Nation, and heirs
of the Estate of Edmund Pickens deceased, do hereby Nominate, Constitute,
and Appoint, George D. James, citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, our true
and lawful Attorney for us and in our behalf, to receive and receipt for all of
any portion of the Estate of the said Edmund Pickens deceased to bring
suit if necessary and by all lawful means to represent our interest in said
Estate. And we further declare that all proceedings of the said George D.
James in prosecuting, receiving and receipting for our protection and
interest in the above Estate, is hereby fully recognized and empowered by us.
Given under our hands and seal, at Skully Ville, Choctaw Nation, This 25th day of August 1868.

Personally appeared before me, James Trahern, an acting and duly commissioned Judge of the County and Probate Court of Skullyville County, Choctaw Nation, David Pickens and Hetty Folsom, who duly and voluntarily acknowledged the within power of attorney to George D. James and that it was given for the purposes therein specified. Given under my hand and seal at Skully Ville Choctaw Nation, This 25th day of August 1868.

[NOTE: This document is significant for three reasons. First, it
goes to prove that David Pickens did not die in 1858, as some sources
have indicated. Second, that Hetty (Hettie) was not the wife of David
Pickens. And third, that Hetty was probably a daughter of Edmund
Pickens who died 29 APR 1868. - kma]
