262. Edward (Edmund)4 Colbert (Joseph Edwin3, Maj. James2, James Logan1) (#22703) was born in IT.(2137)

He married Louisa Elizabeth 'Elsie' in Chickasaw Nation, IT?, circa 1863.(2138) According to Carter Co. & Indian Territory Pioneers, Lou Colbert, who married G. W. Henderson, was a half sister of Willie Colbert. Further, the article says that the town of Lou, (now Gene Autry, OK), was named after her. Her Chickasaw Dawes card #529, indicates that her father was "Vann Colbert and mother Elsie". Willie Colbert's Dawes card, #967, indicates that his father was Edward Colbert and his mother was named "Elizabeth". The article in, Pioneers of Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, Vol. 1, on Willie Colbert and Maud Harris, states that he had a sister named Lou, whom a town was named after which is now known as Gene Autry, OK.

Since, it appears that the father's names in each case are different, but the mothers' names are the same, (Elsie being a short form of Elizabeth), it can be assumed that they had the same mother, who perhaps married brothers?

Lou [Colbert] Henderson is listed as being a 3/4 blood on the Dawes roll, and Willie Colbert is listed as having 3/4 blood as well. This also provides some evidence that there might have been a "brothers married same wife" idea.

In the "Willie Colbert" article, it is stated that he was orphaned before he was 10 years old, which would indicate that his parents died before 1874. (Louisa Elizabeth 'Elsie' is #21914.)

Louisa died circa 1874 in Chickasaw Nation, IT?.

He was listed as a resident in the census report on '1855' Choctaw Roll, Chickasaw District, IT, DEC 1856.
