Joseph Greer⁴ Mitchell (Delilah 'Liley' (Delilie)³ Love, Sally (House of In-cun-no-mar)² Colbert, James Logan¹)⁽⁷¹³⁾ (#5378) was born in Chickasaw Nation, MS 28 FEB 1808.⁽⁷¹⁴⁾ Joseph died 23 APR 1847 in Grayson Co., TX, at 39 years of age.⁽⁷¹⁵⁾ Testimoney of daughter Susan E. (Mitchell) Mays, says that he died "up at the Washita (IT)", and they were only seperated? Her mother had been living in Texas, and he sent for her mother to come up there and her mother was with her father when he died?

He married Jane C. Garrison before 1839.⁽⁷¹⁶⁾ (Jane C. Garrison is #5379.) Jane was born 1 SEP 1810. (Additional notes for Jane C. Garrison⁽⁷¹⁷⁾) Jane died before 1898 in Purcell, Pontotoc Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT.⁽⁷¹⁸⁾ Jane was divorced from John R. Bean in Grayson Co., TX, NOV 1853.⁽⁷¹⁹⁾

Conflicting evidence states that Joseph was born in MS, 24 FEB 1809. He was listed as a resident in the census report in Chickasaw Nation, 1818. Joseph's will was probated in Grayson Co., TX, circa 1847. Note in "Mitchell Family Records" book: "Joel Greer Mitchell lives now, in 1847, in the Choctaw Nation of Indians, West of Mississippi, and is rich, So I was told by Joel D. Mitchell."

Joseph Greer Mitchell and Jane C. Garrison had the following children:
