He married twice. He married Alice Pitchlynn nr Tishomingo, Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT, 16 JAN 1881.⁽⁵⁸³¹⁾ (Alice Pitchlynn is #2264.) Alice was born in IT, 27 NOV 1863.⁽⁵⁸³²⁾ Alice⁽⁵⁸³³⁾ was the daughter of John Thomas Pitchlynn and Susanna 'Susan' Frazier. Alice died 4 JUL 1895 in Chickasaw Nation, IT, at 31 years of age.⁽⁵⁸³⁴⁾ Her body was interred JUL 1895 in Bynum Farm, Tishomingo, Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT.⁽⁵⁸³⁵⁾ She was listed as a resident in the census report on Maytubby Roll, Chickasaw Nation, IT, 1893.⁽⁵⁸³⁶⁾

On 4 MAY 1875, Eloy Harris, widow of Daniel Harris, sold on behalf of her minor ward, Alice Pitchlynn, minor heir of John T. Pitchlynn, deceased, certain property belonging to Alice. No mention was made of Alice's sister Susan, probably as she had married on 15 DEC 1874, and was no longer a minor. Don Martini, in his book, "Southeaster Indian Notebook," stated that Alice Pitchlynn, who married Joseph A. Bynum, was the daughter of Choctaw Chief Peter P. Pitchlynn. There is simply no evidence to support this statement. The Peter Pitchlynn family is well documented, and no Alice is mentioned. While on the other hand there is much to indicate that Alice is the daughter of John T. Pitchlynn and Bettie Harris.

He married Gertrude Elkins in Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT, 29 AUG 1896.⁽⁵⁸³⁷⁾ (Gertrude Elkins is #2265.) Gertrude was born in Waco, McLennan Co., TX, 30 JAN 1875. Gertrude⁽⁵⁸³⁸⁾ was the daughter of Sarge Preston Elkins and Margaret 'Maggie' Louise Blevins. Gertrude died 25 MAR 1974 in Tishomingo, Johnston Co., OK, at 99 years of age.⁽⁵⁸³⁹⁾ Her body was interred 1974 in City Cem., Tishomingo, Johnston Co., OK.⁽⁵⁸⁴⁰⁾ According to conflicting evidence, she married Joseph A. Bynum in Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT, 21 AUG 1895.⁽⁵⁸⁴¹⁾ Gertrude enrolled nr Tishomingo, Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT for the Dawes Chickasaw Roll on 1 OCT 1898 and appears on Dawes card number 919.⁽⁵⁸⁴²⁾ She was listed as a resident in the census report in IT, 1900.

He was listed as a resident in the census report on Maytubby Roll, Chickasaw Nation, IT, 1893.⁽⁵⁸⁴³⁾ According to conflicting evidence, he married Gertrude Elkins in Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT, 21 AUG 1895.⁽⁵⁸⁴⁴⁾ Joseph enrolled nr Tishomingo, Tishomingo Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT for the Dawes Chickasaw Roll on 1 OCT 1898 and appears on Dawes card number 919.⁽⁵⁸⁴⁵⁾ Joseph's occupation: Judge in Chickasaw Nation, IT, before 1907.

Joseph A. Bynum and Alice Pitchlynn had the following children:

1906 i. Elizabeth⁶ Bynum (#4924) was born in IT 14 OCT 1881. Elizabeth died 31 AUG 1882 in IT, at less than one year of age. Her body was interred AUG 1882 in nr Milburn, Johnston Co., OK.⁽⁵⁸⁴⁶⁾
