There is some confusion about this daughter, and they may well be two different persons. Don Martini in his book, "Southeaster Indian Notebook," list Lena Bynum as a daughter of Turner and Lucinda (Dyer) Bynum and says she married Thomas Jefferson Thompson. On the other hand the "Bible of Tennessee Robinson (Colbert) Bynum," list the children of Turner and Lucinda and there is no "Lena" mentioned. There is a "Sina" mentioned as being born 21 FEB 1849, but also dying on 20 JUL 1854. Clearly, if these dates are correct then "Lena" and "Sina" could not be the same. The last child of Turner and Lucinda that is mentioned in the "Bible" as being born is Benjamin Bynum in 1857. Turner's death is given in the "Bible" as 11 APR 1859. Interestingly, there is no date of birth or death listed for Lucinda (Dyer) Bynum. In fact there is a Lucinda Bynum listed on the 1878 Chickasaw Census and listed with her is a "Tom Thompson." Further research has determined that the Lucinda Bynum on the 1878 Census is in fact the widow of Turner Bynum and that the reason that Tom Thompson is listed with her is because she was appointed his guardian as he was a minor heir of Thomas J. Thompson. She file her guardianship bond on 21 JUN 1876. Appointed for Thomas J. Thompson's other minor heirs was Loucinda J. Thompson, "alias" Crockett, "their mother." The Dawes' Card for Lucinda Bynum's ward, indicates that he was born circa 1865. Green Thompson's, (one of T.J. Thompson's other minor heirs), "Genealogy and Family", a manuscript at the Oklahoma Historical Society, Oklahoma City, OK, states that Loucinda J. Harkins married Thomas J. Thompson on 15 DEC 1870. Thus, it is clear that Loucinda J. Thompson was not the mother of young Tom Thompson. Both the aforementioned Dawes' Card and other sources indicate that his mother was "Sena Thompson." With so many sources stating that Sena Bynum is Thomas Benjamin Thompson's mother, the only conclusion to be reached is that the transcriber of the "Bible" misread or mistyped the date of death for Sina Bynum. It was probably not "1854" but "1864". Likewise, in reading old records, I have found that it is very easy to confuse a capital "L" for an "S". What Martini read as "Lena" should have been "Sena." Additionally, having calculated a "circa" birthdate for T.B. Thompson from his Dawes' Card as "circa 1865", it could just as easily be caluclated as "1864", depending exactly when his birthday fell during the year of registration. A very convincing deduction can then be made that Sena/Sina (Bynum) Thompson died as a result of the birth of her child Thomas Benjamin Thompson. Further, that is why Lucinda (Dyer) Bynum, becomes his guardian, because he is her grandchild, and Loucinda J. (Harkins) Thompson was only his step-mother. It is my opinion that Don Martini got "Lena" mixed up with "Sina." Additional sources refer to the wife of Thomas "Doc" Thompson as "Lena", ("History of Indian Territory" published in 1901). Therefore, it appears that Martini may have been right in his spelling, (this is probably his source?). With that in mind it would appear that "Sina" Bynum was not his wife. With this fact in mind, and in view of the birth and death dates, the only other known Bynum child would be Millenium Bynum. It is very probable then that "Lena" is short for "Millenium", and this is Doc Thompsons' wife.
