111. Sarah 'Sally'4 Allen (Elizabeth 'Betsy'3 Love, Sally (House of In-cun-no-mar)2 Colbert, James Logan1)(1017) (#1204) was born in MS 10 FEB 1808.(1018) Sarah died 2 DEC 1854 in IT, at 46 years of age. Her body was interred DEC 1854 nr Colbert, Panola Co, Chickasaw Nation, IT.
She married Martin Colbert.(1019) (Martin Colbert is #1287.) Martin was born circa 1795.(1020) Martin(1021) was the son of Maj. Levi "Itawamba Minco" Colbert and Temusharhoctay 'Dollie' (Schtimmarshashoctay). Martin died 1840 in Horn Lake, DeSoto Co., MS, at 45 years of age.(1022) Conflicting evidence states that Martin was born in MS, 1782.(1023) He was a student in Greenville, TN, circa 1815. School: Greenville College. Conflicting evidence states that he died in MS, 1832.(1024) Martin's will was probated in DeSoto Co., MS, 31 DEC 1840. Letter from William Cocke, Chickasaw Indian Agent, to 5th Auditor of the UnitedStates concerning the storage of certain goods sent to him to be distributed to the Chickasaw Indians, he stated that, "You will see by the enclosed copy of the invoice now sent that is written by Martin Colbert, a Chickasaw and a man so dome learning and of high standing as any other Chickasaw of his age in the Nation. He is the son of Levy Colbert."
She was listed as a resident in the census report in Mississippi Ter., 1818.
There seems to be some confusion over the later life of Sarah "Sally" Allen. Marie King Garland in her book, "The Chickasaw Loves", at page 64, states, "She died Dec. 2, 1854 and is buried in he family plot near Colbert." The only husband Garland mentions is Martin Colbert who died prior to the Chickasaw removal. On page 115 of her book, she states, "Calvin S. Love married Sally M. Allen, sister to Lizzie." On page 119, she states that, "Wilson Love married Lizzie Allen." Later, on the same page, Garland writes, "The widow of Wilson Love, Elizabeth Allen Love, Married William P. Brown, ...."
From this we can gather that Elizabeth "Lizzie" Allen and Sally M. Allen are sisters. Don Martini, in his book, "Southeastern Indian Notebook," states that the Elizabeth Allen who married Wilson Love and then William Brown was a sister to Sarah "Sally" Allen, both daughters of Elizabeth "Betsy" Love and James Allen. So far so good, as Sally Allen could certainly married again after she removed to the Indian Territory. The only problem lies with the 1854 death date. The Sally Allen that married Calvin S. Love, bore him children born later than 1854. (No to mention re-marrying later to Elisha Story and having a child by him about 1866.)
There is one other item to be pointed out about Garland's book, it does contain several known errors as regards dates, and perhaps the 1854 death date is a typographical error as well. It is assumed that the graveyard the Garland is referring to as the last resting place for Sally Allen is the same graveyard where Sarah "Sally" (Oxberry) Albertson is buried, another of Martin Colbert's wives. (As well as the final resting place for several Colberts.) If it is, then according to the recording sheet in Vol. 2, of "Bryan County Cemeteries", it is in a very remote area and hard to get to. The recording sheet does contain a reference to a "Sarah Colbert", but give no dates or other information. Further, the Sarah Colbert listed is listed after the names of several children of James Allen Colbert who died in infancy, (which in the case of Albert Pike Colbert, who is listed just above Sarah Colbert, and it to has no information), and a Martha A. Colbert. The Martha A. Colbert is indicated to be the wife of B.F. Colbert as well as the next listed name Georgia Colbert. Thus it is just as possible that the Saraha Colbert is not in fact Sarah "Sally" Allen, but another child of James Allen Colbert or someone else. Perhaps, a better recording can be made later, but until then, it will have to be assumed that she did not die in December 1854. From Bible records located in February 1993, it would appear that the Elizabeth L. "Lizzie" Allen who married Wilson Love was in fact born on 15 FEB 1833. That she died 18 FEB 1870. "Elizabeth L. Brown, wife of Wm. P. Brown, departed this life the 18th day of February A.D. 1870, Aged 37 years 3 days." Therefore, there would seem to be no possibility that she was the daughter of James Allen and Elizabeth Love. Likewise this would mean that if Sally M. Allen was he sister, then she likewise would not be the daughter of James Allen and Elizabeth Love. However, it is very probable that the two sisters who married the Loves were in fact the children of Alexander M. Allen, a son of James Allen and Elizabeth Love.
