"Ben Love was educated in Washington City, was a son-in-law of Simon BURNEY, owned a number of slaves and was wealthy. At one time he lived on a creek a short distance below Buena Vista. It is not known by this writer, [Henry Warren], how many times Ben Love married. One of his wives was a Choctaw half-breed who had excellent weaving skills.
"About two years after the treaty he moved to Holly Springs where he was assassinated about two weeks afterward. He had two daughters, the oldest named Narcissa."
Grant Foreman in his book, "Five Civilized Tribes", states that, "Benjamin Love, the [Federal] interpreter, five miles from his residence, while returning from a Biloxi village on July 3, 1849, was assassinated. Col. James McLAUGHLIN was then appointed Federal Interpreter."
